Join Goldmark Gallery presenter Max as he takes a tour of an exhibition of original signed lithographs by Paula Rego, made in 2002 with the great lithographer Stanley Jones, and inspired by Charlotte Brontë's classic Jane Eyre.
Paula Rego (1935-2022) was a Portuguese-born painter and printmaker particularly known for her paintings and prints based on storybooks and is widely considered one of the most significant contemporary artists of her generation. Born in Lisbon, Rego moved to London with her husband, the artist Victor Willing, in the 1950s, where she continued her artistic education at the Slade School of Fine Art.
Rego's work is highly regarded for its powerful and often unsettling imagery, which explores themes such as gender, sexuality, and the human condition. Her use of allegory and storytelling has made her work highly accessible and engaging to a wide range of audiences, and her legacy continues to inspire and influence contemporary artists and art lovers alike.
