Jenny Grevatte Recent Paintings Exhibition 2023

Jenny Grevatte, who works in oil and mixed media on subjects that range from colour landscapes to still lifes, will have her fourth Goldmark Gallery show this spring. The exhibition will open on Saturday 22nd April 2023 and run until mid-May.

Join Jenny Grevatte and Goldmark presenter Max Waterhouse in a filmed walkthrough and chat about Jenny's latest exhibition of pictures at Goldmark Gallery in Uppingham.

Jenny Grevatte

The artist who lives in Leicestershire, has travelled extensively since her 2020 exhibition. Grevatte's work is full of spontaneity and she draws her energy from many sources citing recent travels to Greece, Italy, Wales, Suffolk and Cornwall as the key inspirations for this new show.

Jenny Grevatte

Jenny Grevatte trained at Leicester’s De Montfort University. She began her career over 50 years ago as a painter of small still lifes and was discovered by renowned art dealer, Lillian Browse, when only twenty nine.  Grevatte's first solo show was subsequently held at the Browse and Darby gallery, in Cork Street, London in 1981.

Many other solo shows have followed; including a retrospective at Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal in 1991 and a prestigious 1992 exhibition at Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, which toured to the Saarland, Germany. In 1997 she ‘discovered’ Cornwall and has produced many vibrant paintings of its coast and harbour towns. In 2010 she had a major two venue show, at New Walk Museum and Art Gallery and the Attenborough Arts Centre in Leicester. Two documentary length films about her work have been made by Alex J. Wright, her filmmaker son, “A Painter’s Progress” and “Keeping an Eye Open”, which are available on Youtube and Vimeo.

“Nocturnes” is a short film made in 2023 by Jenny's filmmaker son, Alex J. Wright, to coincide with her fourth solo show here at Goldmark, opening on April 22nd. In this film Jenny explains how she first became interested in the theme, discusses her sources and demonstrates her methods of working.
