Chas Laborde,was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to French parents. He studied art in Paris at the Académie Julian and the École des Beaux-Arts. He was a precocious draughtsman and by the age of fifteen he was already selling his drawings to satirical magazines in Paris. After active service in the First World War, during which he was gassed and discharged in 1917, Laborde toured england where he produced strong satirical images of bourgeois life.
