    Printed in a small edition of 300 for the German Expressionist portfolio Ganymed. Published by R. Piper & Co., Marées-Gesellschaft, Munich.


    Kleinschmidt was a key artist working in Berlin between the wars.

    German Expressionism was borne on a wave of resistance and reaction. At its core it was concerned with emotion and the individual experience. This scene is typical in subject matter featuring two elderly ladies, one having her fortune read with unflinching and unflattering detail.
