Sometimes the word 'gallery' simply isn't enough. Yes, it's the core of a business dedicated to the best in painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. But here the books turn into paintings, the paintings turn into films. Watch our short film to find out a bit more about us and what we do.

Ceri Richards was born in 1903 near Swansea to a Welsh-speaking family where music and poetry (influences on his work) were positively encouraged. A gifted draughtsman at school, he left to be apprentice in a firm of electricians in Swansea, devoting his evenings to studying engineering draughtsmanship at Swansea College of Technology and drawing at the Swansea College of Art.
He was a versatile artist, able to absorb many influences without sacrificing his originality. From 1933 he worked on a series of relief constructions and assemblages which were described by John Rothenstein as ‘original creations of a rare order, and unlike anything else done in Britain at the time’. Much of his work was inspired by his love of music and the poetry of Dylan Thomas.

About the Work
Pencil drawing by Ceri Richards of his sister Esther.
Written on the bottom of the paper 'Rachel Richards, Whitchurch, Cardiff, Glamorgan'. Rachel was Ceri's daughter and it is likely that the piece may have been in her collection.
A note from Rhiannon (Richard's daughter) to the previous owner: "I'm replying to you myself as Mel is in hospital at the moment having loads of tests on his heart etc. Hope he'll be out in the next few days so I'm going through hundreds of e mails! The lovely drawing is indeed of his younger sister Esther and beautifully captures her look of intensity and concentration that she so often showed."
