Milan-born Luigi Veronesi (1908-1998) – set designer, painter and director – discovered his passion for photography during his youth. He was immediately drawn to photograms, that is images made in the darkroom directly by contact on photographic paper or a negative, without using a camera.
And his experimental work did not stop there. His desire to “register transparency, thickness, shadows, lights and reflections in a diverse range of fascinating variations and opportunities of expression” led him to a type of photography that is not only intended to reproduce the appearance of objects, but to express an idea, to develop an abstract concept visually.
