Sometimes the word 'gallery' simply isn't enough. Yes, it's the core of a business dedicated to the best in painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. But here the books turn into paintings, the paintings turn into films. Watch our short film to find out a bit more about us and what we do.

The Hay Wain, 1889

Constable exhibited regularly throughout the country and was made an elected RA in 1829. Works of his shown at the Paris and Lille Salons in 1824 and 1826 earned him gold medals from Charles X and the Society of Fine Arts respectively. His finest work, the first edition of English Landscape, a series of mezzotints after his designs by David Lucas, was published 1830-2. He died in 1837.

Finished in 1821, The Hay Wain is one of Constables most famous images, depicting a rural scene on the River Stour between Suffolk and Essex.
The Hay Wain is one of a series of paintings by Constable called the "six-footers", large-scale canvasses which he painted for the annual summer exhibitions at the Royal Academy.
With the image being so sought after a series of mezzotints and etchings were produced after the painting so that people could have a glimpse of it in their homes.
Many engravers took upon the mantle of creating the painting into an etching/engraving over the years, in varying sizes, technique and condition. The artist who engraves the work normally puts their name under the image, sometimes preceded by the word ‘sculpt’ or ‘scpt’.
This mezzotint on India wove paper was engraved after John Constable by Pratt (Joseph Bishop, 1854-1910)
